Stow Associates view sustainability as by far the most important challenge facing the construction industry in the 21st Century, and have some very relevant experience to offer clients who share these concerns.

We are fortunate to have been in the vanguard of the sustainability movement since the early 1990's, and to have worked along the way with leading green designers including Feilden Clegg Bradley, Architype, D. Stainer Hutchins Architects, Pat Borer, and ECD Architects. Our experience of green and sustainable projects extends across most sectors including residential, commercial and leisure and includes experience not only of the cost of a wide range of sustainable products and sustainable design and construction techniques but also where these can be sourced. These include:-

  • timber frame (both cassette and stick built), including
I section beams, Parallam frames, and post and beam construction
  • breathing wall, rammed earth, and straw bale construction
  • recycled cellulose insulation
  • use of thermal mass
  • double/triple glazing and trombe walls
  • natural ventilation
  • displacement ventilation using earth tubes/ thermal labrynths
  • geothermal heat source
  • photovoltaic power generation
  • sustainable urban drainage systems (SUDS)
  • rainwater harvesting
